U.S. congressman uses ‘Stranger Things’ to slam Trump on House floor

Eleven would’ve thrown a car at this point.

When statistics, research, and actual legislative proposals just aren’t ammunition enough against President Donald Trump‘s administration, drawing comparisons to a hellish alternative universe just might get the message across.

Rep. David Cicilline (D-R.I.) addressed the House floor Thursday morning to address the current state of Trump’s presidency thus far, using a metaphor we can all relate to: Stranger Things

“Like the main characters in Stranger Things we are now stuck in the Upside Down,” Cicilline says. “Right is wrong, up is down, black is white.”

Video of Cicilline’s one-minute speech was caught on C-SPAN, where the congressman called out Trump’s “praise on a thug like Vladimir Putin,” railed against Trump’s executive orders like the travel ban on seven Muslim-majority countries, and criticized the administration’s ignorance of the Flint water crisis.

Cicilline even went so far as to make his own Stranger Things title, reading “Trump Things,” probably using this neat online font generator.

“This is not a TV show. This is real life,” Cicilline says. “We have a president like we have never known. Like Mike, Lucas, and Eleven, we must hold this administration accountable so we can escape from our own version of the Upside Down.”

At this point, there are actually very few ~stranger things~ left to surprise us in politics, so a Netflix reference in front of the House of Representatives seems like a fairly sweet way to draw attention to the issues. Bring Eggos next time.
