Stretching the Canvas: Dennis Ritchie, Steve Jobs, and too many cats

This week on Canvas featured a smörgåsbord of cat memes, Steve Jobs references, and original illustrations.

On Tuesday, the staff of the image-manipulation board announced the winner of its week-long drawing contest. Canvas user Photocopier pulled down the top prize with an illustration of a blue whale jumping out of water to snatch up some delicious cookies. Photocopier even created a GIF image of his illustration process.

In total, the contest collected more than 150 comments and submissions.

Canvas is a new social-media platform from 4chan creator Christopher Poole. Users upload photos and alter them using tools built into the website.

Monday
	It’s been more than 20 years since Akira debuted on the silver screen and Canvas still can’t get enough. Forget the Nyan cat. How about the Windows logo flying through space?

Tuesday
Sean Connery is one saucy S.O.B. Life is just one big timeline. Maybe Donnie Darko was right after all. The end is near. These jelly fish don’t sting.

Wednesday
	It’s a kitty snuggle party! If there are two things that Canvas users take seriously it’s their Johann Sebastian Bach memes and cats. Socrates was the original Renaissance man. Next time you’re attending a convention, spice up your “Hello my name is” tags.

Thursday
A world without Kevin Bacon is a world not worth living in. Holding a bunch of eggs in one hand doesn’t take luck, it takes discipline. What is the person reading Goosebumps is scarier than the books themselves? Steve Jobs died less than two weeks ago? Canvas doesn’t give a shit. Facebook and Reddit have lost the magical feeling. This is what happens when you don’t brush your teeth (and you do copious amounts of drugs). It’s a tough life out there for real superheroes.

Friday
	For God’s sake, close that garage door and never abuse a meme again. Dennis Ritchie might have been the most important man to pound away at a keyboard, according to Canvas. It’s one thing to be forever alone. It’s another thing to be…
