The Safdie brothers’ Uncut Gems sent 2019 out with a bang, but the real gems in the production were actors with smaller roles whose characters were mirrors of their daily lives.
One of these characters, Yussi, is portrayed by real-life jeweler Maksud Agadjani, and his Instagram is wild.
Similar to the work done by his character, Agadjani sells jewel-encrusted pendants and gold chains. The jeweler also educates customers on the value of gold and the potential return on investment from the purchases.
One of the most exciting posts from Agadjani shows him recreating his role in Uncut Gems, complete with bottled water and bejeweled Furbies.
Uncut Gems casting director Jennifer Venditti told Backstage that the Safdie brothers spent years canvassing the New York Diamond District to cast the right people in the film. Agadjani was one of the many Diamond District gems who made the cut.
Agadjani brought up his role in the movie in an Instagram post on Dec. 13.
“I went through 15 years of shit in this diamond district, but I felt like it was all made worthwhile when I got to ACT opposite of Adam Sandler in this film,” Agadjani wrote.
