Even the ‘Inhumans’ director thought the trailer was bad

He says the CGI was unfinished at the time.

It’s not always fair to judge a TV show by its trailer. That being said, the first Inhumans trailer was so bad, it’s hard to imagine the series living up to Marvel‘s other TV adaptations.

Even the director agrees. Roel Reine, who directed the first two episodes of Inhumans, told Metro that he wasn’t happy with the trailer. In particular, he wants people to know that Medusa’s unconvincing CGI hair was “not ready” at the time. (The hair has attracted a lot of attention since Marvel released the first Inhumans photos, to the point where io9 published an open letter from “Medusa’s wig.”)

“I was mixed about the first trailer as well,” said Reine. “I felt like it didn’t give you the scope, it didn’t give you a lot of secrets or visual effects. I felt it was a little bit too early because the visual effects were not ready – Medusa’s hair was not ready.”

“When I watched the first trailer I was like ‘ooosh.’ But me as a filmmaker, as a director, you’re not involved with the marketing part of these things.”

The later Comic Con trailer earned a more positive response, although fans should probably restrain their optimism for now. This weekend, the show’s TV Critics Association panel inspired a worrying level of derision.
