‘Batman v Superman’ gets the preemptive parody it deserves

'Batman v Superman: The Punch From Space' would have been so much better.

Here’s a new one: The snarkers over at popular YouTube parody channel How It Should Have Ended are telling us how Batman v Superman should have ended… before we’ve actually seen the ending.

That’s OK, though. If you’ve seen one DC superhero movie at this point, surely you’ve seen them all. Existential crisis? Check. Manpain? Check. Grittiness? Check. Yeah, they’ve got this.

How It Should Have Ended is in a prime position to skewer the film’s much-skewered new trailer. In their Super Cafe series, Batman and Superman have been facing off (OK, squabbling like 10-year-olds) for years. Their latest episode finds Superman mocking the idea that their epic standoff will have any narrative basis other than serving as a flimsy precursor to the two of them forming the Justice League.

We couldn’t agree more. Compared to the three-film buildup Marvel is giving its Civil War arc of the Avengers, Batman and Superman, at least in terms of the Warner Bros. film reboot, have no history and no tension to speak of before their epic standoff—as this hilarious take makes clear.

As a bonus, here’s the video where Batman and Superman first find out that DC is making a movie about the two of them.

We’ll just leave you contemplating the possibilities of The Punch From Space.

Maybe in another eight movies.
