President Donald Trump on Wednesday morning tweeted his support for International Women’s Day, as one would expect a president to do. But Trump is no ordinary president, and he has no ordinary history with women.

As you might expect, Trump’s tweet immediately sparked a cascading backlash due to his history of misogynist statements and the lingering accusations of sexual assault and misconduct against him. Many also wondered whether Trump wrote the tweet himself, speculation bolstered by the fact that it was posted with an iPhone rather than the Android device Trump is believed to use. On top of that, women across the U.S. are striking today to protest Trump and his policies. All of these details combined to create some vicious Twitter burns.

Despite an ample number of examples of Trump’s disrespect toward women, the president generally backs up his claim that he is a champion of women by citing the results of the 2016 presidential election. In fact, women from most demographics overwhelmingly supported Trump’s Democratic challenger, Hillary Clinton, a detail Trump rarely grabs onto.
