A TikTok video featuring a crying baby has viewers worrying about the kid’s safety after the fact.
TikToker @lowlife_edgar was waiting in the checkout line at a Champs Sports store when he captured the footage.
At some point prior to the video’s start, a stroller carrying a very young child had tipped over backward. It’s unclear how this happened, or if the woman with him reacted at the time, but she appeared to be ignoring her overturned child throughout the short clip.
Instead, another man stepped up, set his own soon-to-be purchase on the ground, and righted the crying kid.
The woman, presumed to be the baby’s mother, was paying for her own items at the checkout counter throughout the video, and didn’t seem at all concerned about her child crying or the stranger picking his stroller up—she didn’t even so much as glance down at the boy when he finally quieted.
“When the stimmy already hit u dgaf bout the kid,” @lowlife_edgar superimposed on the video.
The child didn’t seem like he was hurt, but viewers were still concerned at the presumed mother’s lack of reaction to her upset child strapped in an overturned stroller.
“What the heck she didn’t even check if he hurt himself,” @karinalira2 wrote.
“They could have rolled that baby out of the store and she wouldn’t have noticed,” another user pointed out.
Some people tried to defend the woman, with one suggesting “she was probably embarrassed & didn’t know how to react.”
“I def don’t condone this but what if the mom told the kid to stop jumping around and then that happened lmao,” @kaylaunique96 wondered.
Several made mention of wanting to call Child Protective Services over the incident, making the assumption that if she pays so little attention to the boy in public, he must face similar or worse treatment at home.
Ultimately, @dejanae_m seemed to sum up what most viewers were thinking when she wrote: “Why have kids if you’re not going to take care of them?”
