Snapchat’s guidelines explicitly prohibit sexually explicit content and the use of public Stories to distribute or promote porn. But you wouldn’t know that based on the company’s reputation or from a few hours spent on the app.
The fleeting nature of Snapchat—where photos and videos disappear after they’ve been viewed—helped popularize sexting on a mainstream level, and the app remains a hotbed of NSFW content. In fact, according to the New York Times, GroupM, an advertising-buying firm that oversees billions in spending, recently warned its clients about the possibility of their ads appearing mixed in with Snapchat’s adult content—or having their specialty Lenses being used by porn stars.
But seeing your favorite adult performer with a Taco Bell filter is part of Snapchat’s appeal: It shows you a different, more playful side of their personality and brings you closer to their world. Snapchat basically gives you a peephole—except the stars get to control exactly what you see. And because Snapchat is not as sophisticated at blocking NSFW content—and not nearly as prudish as Facebook or Instagram—chances are you’re to see plenty of porn.

Let’s be honest: There’s only so many times you stand to watch your friends’ lifeless selfies, snaps of their mimosa brunches, and pictures of their dogs.
