James Charles is being accused of grooming after a 16-year-old revealed on TikTok messages that Charles allegedly sent him.
Jake Cherry posted the TikTok video in February, Dexerto reported on Tuesday. The video was not available on Wednesday when the Daily Dot ran a search for it.
The video was, however, shared by people on Twitter.
“… goodnight cutie,” Charles allegedly said in a Snapchat that also featured a shirtless photo of him. According to the video, it appears that Charles was responding to a message from Cherry in which Cherry wrote he was missing Charles.
Later screenshots included in the video show Charles accusing Cherry of screenshotting his messages and posting them. “What the fuck is your problem,” Charles allegedly said. “Posting screenshots of my snaps to you on your private story?”
“I strongly recommend that you keep my name out of your mouth or we’re going to have a major problem,” Charles continued, according to the screenshots.
In a separate video also shared on Twitter, a screenshot shows that Charles “opened” a message by Cherry. “That man is obsessed w me Istg [I swear to god],” Cherry captioned the screenshot of the chat.
According to the screenshots, Charles accused Cherry of calling him “cute,” saying he was “bisexual and into (Charles),” and of deleting messages in which he “lied about (his) age.” Charles also said he had receipts of this conversation, according to the screenshots. “Lying about your age to bait someone is against the law by the way,” Charles continued, according to the screenshots.
Cherry denied deleting any messages. “idk but I can promise you I didn’t delete anything lol,” he responded.
The Daily Dot is not publishing the links to the copies of Cherry’s videos, as Cherry is a minor and has removed the content from his own account. The Daily Dot has reached out to Cherry and will update this report if he responds.
The next time they spoke appears to be on March 11, about three months later, with Cherry responding to a snap by Charles. “Hey,” Cherry said.
Between November and February, Cherry’s Instagram and TikTok accounts did not contain any videos.
People online are responding to the news with mixed reactions. Some are calling for Charles to be held accountable, given the slew of similar accusations against him, while others feel as if Cherry was “baiting” Charles.
“HE CAN’T KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH THIS!” wrote one user.
“That boy BAITED James Charles, harrased (sic) him and then PUBLICLY released a video of the conversation,” another said, insinuating Cherry lied.
