A viral video on TikTok shows an 18-year-old girl catching her boyfriend saying, “I want a new girlfriend for Christmas” on her doorbell camera.
The video, posted by Colbi Carlson (@colbischeesin), has over 27 million views and 5 million likes since being posted on Thursday.
The video starts with a selfie of Carlson flashing a peace sign, with the caption: “As my boyfriend was leaving my house, I heard him say something I wish I hadn’t.”
The next portion of the TikTok shows footage from a doorbell camera, with two boys leaving what is allegedly Carlson’s home.
He’s seen and heard telling his friend, “You know what I want for Christmas? A new girlfriend.” The friend laughs at the toxic savagery.
But in a subsequent video, Carlson calls the doorbell video “a joke” in an nonsensical explanation.
“In regards to my last video, that was a complete joke,” she says. “I accidentally told [the boyfriend] that he was a downgrade. So he said that back as a joke.”
“That picture of me crying was from something stupid like months ago,” she adds.
Viewers think she somehow managed to make things worse with her explanation.
“How do you accidentally tell your boyfriend that he’s a downgrade?” one questioned.
“Accidentally called him a downgrade….also he said that not around you ?? i can’t take that as joking,” another said.
“You can literally tell that this wasn’t a ‘joke,’” a TikToker added, with another saying, “How is that a joke I’m just confused.”
Others are speculating that he “made” her post a follow-up video. “Sis was def forced to make this,” one user speculated.
