Explosions at Istanbul’s Atatürk Airport have at least 41 dead and dozens injured Tuesday, according to Turkish officials.
The Associated Press initially reported that at least two assailants blew themselves up at the international departures area amid police gunfire. According to Turkey’s Justice Minister Bekir Bozdag, one assailant opened fire with a Kalashnikov gun before detonating himself.
Photos and videos have flooded social media outlets like Twitter, helping spread awareness, provide minute-to-minute updates, and send thoughts and prayers to Turkey.
No one has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Update 9:41pm CT, June 28: Turkish officials originally said that nearly 50 people had died. An official who spoke to the Associated Press later said the number killed by the attackers is expected to rise to 50 but currently remains at at least 36.
Update 5:27pm CT, June 29: The death toll has since risen to at least 41, according to CNN.
