President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that he has canceled the long-anticipated summit with North Korea that was scheduled to take place next month, blaming the “tremendous anger and open hostility” from the country.
“I felt a wonderful dialogue was building up between you and me, and ultimately, it is only that dialogue that matters,” Trump wrote to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. “Some day, I look very much forward to meeting you.”
With the president announcing his decision to cancel the meeting, the internet quickly began mocking the months-long push from Trump’s most supportive allies online and in Congress who considered the meeting grounds for a Nobel Peace Prize.
The calls for Trump to win the coveted prize began in earnest in late April when North Korea and South Korea began historic peace talks. Several days later, a group of Republicans in the House of Representatives nominated Trump to win the prize “in recognition of his work to end the Korean War.”
The president seemed to catch wind of the Nobel talk, because he told reporters earlier this month that “everyone thinks” he should win the prize, adding that he only wanted “victory for the world.”
With the summit now canceled, the internet couldn’t help wonder what would happen to the talks of the president winning the Nobel Peace Prize.
I guess Trump is going to have to hope that he will get the Nobel prize for literature now

Looks like calls for Trump’s Nobel Peace Prize were slightly premature.

So uh.. kind of awkward for those GOP lawmakers and governors who called for Trump to win the Nobel peace prize?

Does Nobel have a participation trophy they can give Trump?

Maybe Trump fans will try again for the prize next year?
