White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said the far-right website Breitbart should consider cutting ties with former White House strategist Steve Bannon following his spat with President Donald Trump this week.
Sanders was asked by a reporter whether the White House would suggest Bannon be fired in the same way they did with an ESPN anchor who made critical remarks about the president earlier this year.
“I certainly think that it’s something they should look at and consider,” Sanders said.
Bannon and Trump have had a public showdown in recent days after the former White House strategist and head of Breitbart was quoted as calling the meeting between Donald Trump Jr. and other senior Trump campaign officials had with a Russian lawyer last June “treasonous.”
In response, Trump said Bannon had “lost his mind” and sent a cease-and-desist letter to him, saying that he violated a non-disclosure agreement he signed with the campaign.
Bannon backpedaled on Wednesday, calling Trump a “great man” on his Breitbart radio show, something Trump seemed to enjoy when asked about the feud on Thursday.
“I don’t know, he called me a great man last night so, you know he obviously changed his tune pretty quick,” Trump told reporters on Thursday.
