Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) on Tuesday defended a tweet she wrote in April calling White House adviser Stephen Miller a white nationalist in the wake of a number of his racist emails being leaked.
On Tuesday the Southern Poverty Law Center’s Hatewatch published a cache of emails sent by Miller where, among other things, he shared a link from a white nationalist website. The majority of emails were from when he was working for then-Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.).
Omar, responding to the publication of the emails, reshared a tweet she sent in April where she called Miller a white nationalist, adding that “now we have the emails to prove it.” Her April tweet drew criticism from both Donald Trump Jr. and Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-N.Y.), according to USA Today.
“As I said earlier this year: Stephen Miller is a white nationalist. And now we have the emails to prove it. This type of racism and hatred has no place in our government. Miller needs to step down. Now,” the Minnesota lawmaker tweeted.

The White House told HuffPost that they had not seen the report from the Southern Poverty Law Center, but called them “utterly-discredited” and a “far-left smear organization.”
Omar is not the only Democratic lawmaker who has been fiercely critical of the emails.
2020 Democratic hopeful Julian Castro called Miller a “Neo-Nazi” in a tweet where he linked to the Southern Poverty Law Center report.
“Donald Trump put a Neo-Nazi in charge of immigration policy. Both him, and Stephen Miller, are a shame to our nation,” Castro tweeted.

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) said Miller’s views were “a danger to the American people.”

Meanwhile, Rep. Tim Ryan (D-Ohio), a former 2020 Democratic presidential hopeful, went with sarcasm.
