The results aren’t yet official, but the tide of the presidential race continues to appear to be to turning in Democratic Joe Biden‘s favor. This morning, Decision Desk HQ, followed quickly by Pop Crave (yes, really), projected a Biden win.
The former vice president’s margins in Pennsylvania are rising as ballots continue to be counted. If Biden wins Pennsylvania, he would pass the 270 Electoral College votes necessary to win the presidency. Meanwhile, Biden also leads in other states like Arizona, Nevada, and Georgia.
As expected, President Donald Trump is refusing to go quietly. Trump has filed lawsuits in multiple states, falsely declared himself the winner, and made rumblings about refusing to concede.
The Biden camp has something to say about it. Asked what they’ll do if Trump refuses to concede after the race has been called, Biden spokesman Andrew Bates had a response that blew up the internet.
“As we said on July 19th, the American people will decide this election. And the United States government is perfectly capable of escorting trespassers out of the White House,” Bates said.
Many people online thought that Bates should have followed the advice of former First Lady Michelle Obama and taken the high road instead of opting for what they saw as a low blow.
“No need for this kind of statement…stay gracious until the end..no need to stoke the fires..it is a sensitive moment for America,” tweeted one user.
However, not everyone felt the same way. A large amount of people online thought Trump’s antagonistic, acerbic style made the clearly pointed statement well-deserved.
“Think this has to be one of the best put down tweets I’ve ever seen! Brilliant,” tweeted one Twitter user.
As of this writing, Biden has not declared victory, and thus far Decision Desk HQ remains the only one to predict that he will become the next president of the United States.
