The MST3K'ification of Jaws!
Liveblogging and Mystery Science Theater 3000 come together at Insert-Disc.com, a website dedicated to group riffing on terrible movies.
Insert-Disc hosts I Don't Even, a weekly online movie night where friends and strangers gather in an IRC channel to collectively cringe at filmmaking's finest failures.
On Wednesday nights, these arguably masochistic viewers gather together, load a video streaming link, and on the word, "go!" everyone presses play. The chartroom then fills with gleefully sarcastic comments a la Rifftrax or Mystery Science Theater 3000.
Liveblogging, a running commentary posted in real time with an event, has been used by both journalists covering world news and geeks on twitter reacting to the latest Doctor Who.
Group liveblogging of movies is not a new trend, in Internet terms, but I Don't Even has taken it to the next level. Movie nights are curated, themed, and sometimes feature movie rarities.
This month, I Don't Even will be riffing on bad shark movies. Tune in tonight at 10pm EST for the first installment, Jaws 3D.
