Actor Ryan Reynolds got on the phone this week with a 5-year-old English boy named Daniel Downing, who reportedly has months to live because of an inoperable brain tumor.

“How you doing little buddy?” the Deadpool actor asked.

Downing was excited to talk to Reynolds, sure, but he wanted to FaceTime.

“Of course I can… I’ll do it right now,” Reynolds told Downing, before calling him back via the video chat app. “That’s better, right?”

The duo reportedly spent 15 minutes chatting. Reynolds pointed out his young fan’s Deadpool T-shirt, revealing that he’d never actually owned one.

“You’re a little young…” Reynolds said of the boy who’d watched and loved his rated-R Marvel film. He quickly pivoted, however, and made Downing an offer that he couldn’t refuse. “I’m filming Deadpool 2… we’re about to walk into the set… Want to walk with me?”

Watch the exchange below:

“I messaged his assistant to say how eternally grateful we all are for him taking the time out to talk to Daniel. It was absolutely fantastic,” Downing’s mom, Stephanie, told the Plymouth Herald. “I’m so happy for Daniel—it’s something he wouldn’t normally have been able to do and he was so excited. He told all his friends and his teachers. It’s nice to see him so excited because he has been a bit down lately.”

A family friend has set up a Just Giving crowdfunding page for the Downings. It has already more than doubled its initial goal of £6,000, thanks to nearly 850 supporters.
