This hungry dude cooked his own meal at Waffle House as an employee slept in the corner

Give this man a round of applause. And a double Texas bacon cheesesteak melt.

When you’re hungry and possibly inebriated in the middle of the night and the pangs of hunger strike directly at your gut, one of the better choices you could make is to head over to Waffle House and have yourself a glorious meal.

But what happens when you open the front door and realize nobody is working? Well, if you’re a dude named Alex Bowen, you take matters into your own hands. What’s why, as WISTV reported, Bowen, when he discovered that a restaurant employee was blissfully asleep in the corner, went behind the counter and cooked the meal for himself.

All while taking selfies and posting them to his Facebook account.

Bowen told WISTV that he entered the West Columbia, South Carolina restaurant early Thursday morning and waited for 10 minutes at the register without seeing an employee. When he finally discovered somebody asleep in the corner, Bowen decided to take action.

“Got hot on the grill with a double Texas bacon cheesesteak melt with extra pickles,” Bowen told the TV station. “When I was done I cleaned the grill, collected my ill-gotten sandwich and rolled on out … I give all the credit to my old friend vodka. I wouldn’t normally have done that.”

Bowen said he stopped by later that same day and gave the restaurant $5 for the meal. Meanwhile, a Waffle House spokesperson said the restaurant had suspended the sleeping employee for a week. But you can certainly count this as a victory for Bowen—for his social media awareness and for his no-longer-empty belly.

Said Bowen: “[I] guess old Waffle House [is] just gonna have to take the ‘L’ on that one.”
