If there’s one thing people from the South don’t mess around about, it’s a homemade pecan pie.

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders has proven just that with her #piegate tweetstorm.

It all began when Sanders tweeted about a pie she allegedly baked for Thanksgiving. The photo—which, admittedly, looks a lot like a stock photo—was immediately roasted by the internet. Even White House correspondent April Ryan called Sanders out, requesting a photo of the pie on a table.

Sanders clearly didn’t appreciate the trolling, so for Christmas, she gifted the internet with detailed evidence that she can, in fact, bake a pecan pie.

Sanders then presented Ryan and other reporters with baked pies in an attempt to end the feud. Sanders looked pretty uncomfortable, however, when Ryan told her that hailing from the South didn’t mean that Sanders was actually a good baker.

“I think this is an earnest attempt for you to reach out to all of us, not just to me,” Ryan said.

“That’s true, I try to reach out to you guys every day,” Sanders said in response. “But I think this is a great time—it’s Christmas—to be generous and hospitable, which I try to be every day.”

The feud ended with Ryan giving Sanders’ father a shoutout—through gritted teeth.

“Hello Papa Huckabee,” Ryan said. “I got a pie in my hand but I’m not gonna eat it but I’m thankful.”
