Japanese home appliance designer Haier Asia has struck a great blow against the dark side of food spoilage with its debut of a new robotic R2-D2 unit that doubles as a refrigerator.

The company unveiled the Star Wars droid earlier today in Tokyo, when CEO Yoshiaki Ito demonstrated its appeal onstage: He had it bring him a drink.

The R2 unit is actually a replica of the robot. But if you just want a regular refrigerator, Haier also plans on unveiling fridge covers patterned with other Star Wars characters as well as Marvel characters. If you’ve ever wanted a chance to crack C3-PO open, or open up Tony Stark’s Iron Man suit, you’ll be in luck.

The Japanese appliance industry isn’t the only one getting in on the Star Wars home cooling units. Turns out you can also keep your beer on ice courtesy of a cold Han Solo encased in carbonite.

Who knew fictional characters could double so nicely as food storage?
