Fans all over the world have paid tribute to Adam West, TV’s original Batman, since learning of his death last week, and now the city of Los Angeles is adding its own tribute.

On Thursday night, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and LAPD Chief Charlie Beck will light Batman’s Bat-signal at Los Angeles City Hall’s historic Spring Street Steps. A number of “surprise Bat-guests” will also be in attendance to mark the occasion.

The ceremony will be open to the public, and fans are encouraged to don their best Batman gear (and the handy utility belts West’s portrayal made famous) for the occasion.

Through West’s Twitter account, his family said that they were touched by the tribute from the city of Los Angeles.

West’s family asked fans who are unable to attend the ceremony to donate to the Adam West Memorial Fund at St. Jude’s and Camp Rainbow Gold.

The Bat-signal lighting will begin at 9pm PST (12am EST) at 200 N. Spring Street, Los Angeles.
