Paul Verhoeven’s Starship Troopers celebrates its 20th birthday this year, marking two decades of people arguing whether it’s a dumb action movie or a sharp political satire. (To settle that argument: It’s both.)

This fan-made trailer revisits the 1997 movie, recutting it to resemble a “serious” modern blockbuster. Does it do a better job at illustrating the qualities that turned Starship Troopers into a cult classic? For comparison, here’s one of the original trailers from 1997.

By the way, if you’re hungry for more Starship Troopers action, you’re in luck. There’s a new animated sequel coming out later this year.
