Marvel has announced the cast for one of its most hotly anticipated new adaptations: Runaways.
Adapted from the Runaways comics by Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphona, the series will air on Hulu, shaped by a duo of showrunners (Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage) from Gossip Girl and The O.C.
The show follows a group of teenagers who discover their parents are supervillains, and decide to run away from home. Here’s the main cast, courtesy of Marvel:
- Rhenzy Feliz as the nerdy and sensitive Alex Wilder.
- Lyrica Okano as the tough and gothic Nico Minoru.
- Virginia Gardner as Karolina Dean, a solar-powered alien.
- Ariela Barer as Gert Orks, a “brash social justice warrior.”
- Gregg Sulkin as the Chase Stein, the jock.
- Allegra Acosta as Molly Hernandez, the youngest of the group.
Some of the characters will probably be tweaked to remove elements that can’t be adapted by Marvel Studios—for example, any connections to the X-Men franchise, which is owned by 20th Century Fox. Otherwise, this casting seems very close to the beloved comics, as you can see from Marvel’s gallery of the cast.
