PureGym is under fire for a Facebook post advertising a “12YearsOfSlave” workout routine to “celebrate” Black History Month. The tone-deaf and racist post said, “slavery was hard and so is this.”

The post, which has since been taken down, was published on Monday by one of PureGym’s United Kingdom branches. The post clarified that the title of the workout was “after the epic movie.” It’s unclear why the post promoted a months-old holiday.

After many screengrabbed and tagged the fitness center, PureGym issued an apology and said the company is investigating the origin of the post.

“This post was wholly unacceptable, was not approved or endorsed by the company and was removed when it was brought to our attention,” the statement said. “We take this matter extremely seriously and are urgently investigating how and why this post was made. Thank you to those people who commented on this post and for raising this with us.”

Many have expressed their frustrations with the post and one person said their “jaw dropped.”
