At tonight’s Democratic debate, Beto O’Rourke was asked if he would confiscate the same weapons used against Americans in mass shootings this past month. He said “hell yes.”

“Hell yes, we are going to take your AR-15, your AK-47,” O’Rourke said. “We aren’t going to allow it to be used against our fellow Americans anymore.”

O’Rourke felt the impact of gun violence in his hometown when a gunman terrorized an El Paso, Texas Walmart, killing 22.

Since then, O’Rourke became the candidate for strong gun control and has called for mandatory government buybacks to get semiautomatic long guns off the street.

“JESUS BETO WENT OFF,” @PrincessBravato tweeted.

Soon after the El Paso massacre, there was a shooting in Odessa, Texas that killed seven.

After that, O’Rourke recalled on stage the story of a mother who watched her daughter bleed out after being shot by an assault weapon.

“Because so many other people were shot by that AR-15 in Odessa, in Midland, there weren’t enough ambulances to get to them in time,” O’Rourke said.

In a heated debate, O’Rourke sounds willing to stand by a policy that some people will vehemently oppose, but that he believes will make a difference.
