MSNBC and Fox News hosts just totally botched Bernie Sanders’ name

Feeling the Bern is easy. Pronouncing the Bern is hard.

Covering presidential campaigns is a long, hard slog.

Political reporters spend months traipsing around places like Iowa and New Hampshire pretending to listen to the public policy potions of average Americans all in an ultimately futile effort to help you, a different average American who maybe does not reside in Iowa or New Hampshire, understand this perplexing jumble we call democracy. It is a cruel, thankless job with only one perk: occasionally being able to play with those cool touchscreens that show election results on CNN.

Shortly after the polls closed in New Hampshire and all the major networks declared Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump the victors, a pair of television newscasters, each on different sides of the aisle, inadvertently revealed how much they need a break.

Fox News personality and Trump arch-nemesis Megyn Kelly accidentally called Vermont’s most famous democratic socialist “Bernie Sandals” because, like every rational person, she would likely rather be sipping a margarita on a beach instead of getting ready to announce a major political victory for a guy who once insinuated blood was coming out of her “whatever.”

And then, like magic, Twitter made “Bernie sandals” real.

Kelly wasn’t the only talking head who had an issue. MSNBC’s Chris Hayes called the candidate “Bernie Sandwiches,” because maybe he was hungry.

But what type of sandwich?

We may never know.

Don’t worry Chris and Megyn, only nine more months until Election Day!
