What a way to start the New Year. On New Year’s Eve, Rhode Island State Representative Dan Gordon (R-Portsmouth) tweeted a few phrases commonly associated with hacktivist group Anonymous.

He may have confidently expected to get a few retweets and brand himself a maverick (always useful in American politics) but it’s doubtful he expected to spend the first days of the New Year playing whack-a-mole with the fallout.

From requests to Twitpic his junk, Anthony Weiner-style, to demands he put a shoe on his head, Gordon has had a busy couple of days. He’s also fielded invitations to appear on Anon-centric podcasts, to explain his criminal history (most recent arrest was September 16) and military service record.

Here are some of the Twitter exchanges.
