As long as YouTube has been around, remix-driven, imaginative covers have been prominent fixtures—from rock renditions of Pachelbel’s Canon in D to bluegrass takes on the Game of Thrones theme.

Australian jazz sextet, The Consouls, has been bringing sultry tones to video game compositions for the past year. Its newest rendition is for the Battlefield theme from Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Suffice it to say, it’s pretty awesome.

The band has been hard at work this past year, fresh off its first-ever EP

For their part, The Consouls do justice to a proud tradition. There are a ton of great electronic artists like Benjamin Briggs and even rock bands like The Descendants of Erdrick turning out video game themes.
