Ruth’s Chris Steak House is booked solid through Thursday and turning people away at the door after a Facebook promotion royally backfired this weekend.

General manager Buzz Goebel is a huge fan of the Michigan Wolverines football. According to ESPN, his grandfather was the captain of the school’s team in 1920.

That’s part of the reason why his restaurant hosted a “Score Big” promotion on the social network,  claiming people could get one dollar off their meal for each point the Wolverines beat their opponent in college football.

Then the Wolverines decimated Rutgers University 78-0.

To avoid taking a similar beating, Ruth’s Chris Steak amended its post to cap savings at 50 percent, but the restaurant is honoring the deal and had to call in extra staff on Sunday.

“I love this,” Goebel told ESPN. “It’s kind of scary, but you can’t buy this kind of advertising. If we execute perfectly, we’re in good shape.”

It’s unclear if the promotion will continue Oct. 22, when the Wolverines take on Illinois Fighting Illini. But I’d go ahead and book a table.
