Last month, Super Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai unveiled a new in-game trophy of Rayman, one of Ubisoft’s most popular characters. Players were left confused as to whether it was just a nod to the limbless hero, or if it meant that Rayman would be joining the fight.

We now may have our confirmation, coming straight from Nintendo Canada’s Matt Ryan. In a feature with Console Creatures, Ryan spoke candidly about the upcoming game for the Wii U. He accidentally let slip that players would be able to play with a slew of new characters, including Rayman.

This wouldn’t be the first time Nintendo introduced third-party characters to the Smash Bros. roster. Super Smash Bros. Brawl introduced Sonic and Solid Snake. The upcoming Smash Bros. for Wii U will have Mega Man and Pac-Man. Rayman will be the first character from a non-Japanese publisher to make its Smash Bros. debut. Who knows, maybe Master Chief will join the fight when Smash Bros. comes out for the 3DS this October, and for the Wii U later this year.

Update: An email from Nintendo of Canada to the Daily Dot clarified the rumor that Rayman will be a playable character: “In the recent interview in Canada about Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Rayman was mentioned, and this was referring to the previously announced Rayman trophy in the game.”
