The last few days have been especially kind to Rick Santorum. The scatological “Spreading Santorum” no longer sits atop Google search results. He stayed alive on Super Tuesday by winning three states, and only lost the fabled swing state of Ohio by less than a point.
Now, an old-fashioned family band from Oklahoma has written a decidedly non-terrible song about him. Could this be Santorum’s will.i.am moment?
“Game On” by the band First Love has already attracted the attention of Santorum himself, who tweeted yesterday, “Wow! I love this #GameOn song and video! Thank you Harris Family from Oklahoma!”
According to the video’s description, First Love’s Camille and Haley Harris, who have been throwing videos up on YouTube for about a year now, wrote the song in just two days with the help of their parents, David and Cherri. Not bad for a pair of girls whose website boasts that they’ve never attended public school, bought a magazine, or watched cable TV (could the Harris sisters be the second coming of the Shaggs?)
Though “Game On” has tallied tens of thousands of hits, the video currently has more dislikes than likes. That said, the majority of the negative comments attack Santorum, not the song itself. For its part, “Game On” is pretty safe, avoiding some of the Santorum’s more controversial stances, such as women in the military and gay rights.
The Haley sisters aren’t the only songwriters inspired by Santorum’s rise.
Last month, YouTube user serghero uploaded a much different take on the candidate,”Rick Santorum’s Prim Linen Closet of Terror.”
“Senator Santorum sees Sodom and Gomorrah/in the bedrooms of his neighbors and his friends,” serghero sings in the video. “If he looked a little closer, he’d see true love and devotion.”
Santorum has yet to tweet about that video.
