He's still a total dad.

Barack Obama will never stop being the dad who totally embarrasses his kids—much like he’ll never stop being the dad who loves those kids so much, you can’t help but find his earnestness downright moving.

He’s the dad who had to ask his daughters about this newfangled Snapchat thing and who serenaded them in front of everybody on their birthdays. He also unequivocally loves him some dad pop.

And when his oldest leaves for college, he can’t stop himself from crying.

While in Delaware on Monday to appear at a fundraiser for the foundation of Beau Biden, the late son of former Vice President Joe Biden, Obama talked about dropping off Malia Obama for her freshman year at Harvard. Watch the video here, but here was Obama’s quick story below:

“For those of us who have daughters, it just happens fast,” Obama said. “I dropped off Malia at college, and I was saying to Joe and Jill that it was a little bit like open-heart surgery. I was proud that I did not cry in front of her but on the way back, the Secret Service was looking straight ahead pretending they weren’t hearing me as I sniffled and blew my nose. It was rough.”

And yet, that story (and Obama as a dad, in general) is the absolute best.
