Earlier this month, it was reported that special prosecutor Robert Mueller had enough evidence to indict former national security advisor Michael Flynn and his son in the investigation over Russia’s interference in the 2016 presidential election.
But the indictment hasn’t happened yet, and according to the New York Times, Flynn might now be negotiating or cooperating with Mueller’s probe. The newspaper reported Flynn’s lawyers have told Trump’s legal team it can no longer share information about Mueller’s investigation, as they had before.
This reportedly has led Trump’s legal team to posit Flynn now might be working with Mueller, and his cooperation could be the reason an indictment against him hasn’t been announced yet.
In October, Paul Manafort, Trump’s former campaign chairman, was indicted on nine charges, and it was revealed that former Trump adviser George Papadopolous had pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about his involvement with Russia.
According to the Times, Flynn is worried about the legal exposure faced by his son, Michael Flynn Jr.
In February, after less than a month on the job, Flynn resigned as the national security adviser for misleading Vice President Mike Pence about his conversations with a Russian official. Two weeks ago, the Wall Street Journal reported that Mueller was investigating Flynn’s alleged involvement in a scheme to forcibly take a Muslim cleric living in the U.S. and trade him to Turkey in exchange for as much as $15 million.
