With Google’s voice-activated speaker Google Home, you can do a lot of things. It can play music for you, tell you the weather forecast, and set alarms or timers. You can also use it to control smart home and streaming devices from Philips, Toshiba, Bang & Olufsen, and Nest. Google Home’s capabilities can now start stretching outside the home. Hyundai partnered with Google so you can soon start using this smart speaker to control your car.

Hyundai owners could already do things like remotely start their vehicle using their phone through the carmaker’s Blue Link service. In the near future (exact date TBD), Hyundai owners will also be able to look up Google Maps directions and send them straight to the car, unlock the doors, and set the car’s temperature so it’s not icicle-level inside.

According to The Verge, Hyundai says it will add some more features before this Google Home integration officially launches.

We suspect Hyundai won’t be the only carmaker partnering with a smart home assistant this year, but it does look to be the first.
