A demonstration against a grand jury’s decision not to indict Ferguson, Mo. Police Officer Darren Wilson for the shooting of African-American teenager Michael Brown was interrupted Tuesday afternoon when a car sped through the crowd, running over a female protester.

According to a report by the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, protesters were blocking the intersection at E. Lake Street and Minnehaha Avenue around 4:30pm when a driver began honking. The car, a teal station wagon, then drove through the crowd, slamming into a few of the demonstrators.

In a video of the incident uploaded to YouTube by KSTP, a number of protesters can be seen being flung into the vehicle’s hood, while a woman in a red jacket is caught underneath its tires.

Protesters immediately encircled the car in an attempt to prevent the driver from escaping, but the driver powered through the crowd and drove off.

Star-Tribune reporter Libor Jany noted on Twitter that police soon took the hit-and-run suspect into custody. The driver was released shortly thereafter.

The victim apparently only suffered minor injuries.
