There are finally some signs of life for True Detective season 3—and they involve Mahershala Ali.

At the Television Critics Association press event on Wednesday, it was announced that Ali—the breakthrough actor from MoonlightLuke Cage, and House of Cards—would play the lead in season 3. Reports of his casting began surfacing in June, but yesterday HBO’s head of original programming Casey Bloys confirmed the rumor. He claimed there are five scripts for season 3, and they “are talking to directors, and when we have a director we want to hire, it will be a go.”

There were no details on plot. Season 2 of True Detective, which starred Rachel McAdams and Colin Farrell and took place in Los Angeles, was much different in tone than the gilded Louisiana-set season 1, and a lot of fans dropped out. But that frustrating season did produce some great content.

Time to start placing bets on partners.
