Ahead of an appearance at SXSW, Pussy Riot released a new song with TV on the Radio’s Dave Sitek.
Pussy Riot kicked off its first-ever U.S. tour this week, and “Bad Apples” follows up previous single “Police State.” This version of Pussy Riot is more polished, catchy, electronic pop; in the video, member Nadya Tolokonnikova slices into a table covered with apples and addresses those “drunk on power.” The video’s description states the song is “dedicated to really disgusting things. We demand immediate criminal justice reform. We demand firing of corrupted cops and high-level officials.”
Pussy Riot has already taken shots at Trump with the song “Make America Great Again” and that will likely continue on this tour, which will include music and activist art. Tolokonnikova told Variety that while they are still more concerned about Putin, “Trump is only a part of a really sad trend that has allowed the political rise of a bunch of old-world misogynist patriarchal assholes who care about their money and power more than about anything else in life. They are bad apples that have to be stopped ASAP.”
