Golden Globes awards

A couple things make the Golden Globes different than the Oscars. First, the audience is allowed to drink, which always makes the speeches a little livelier. Second, they nominate outstanding work in movies and TV—which means that a number of streaming projects were named among the 2018 nominees Monday morning.

Notably absent from the nominee pool this year is award show darling House of Cards. The series received four nominations but no wins at the Emmys in September, prior to reports of Kevin Spacey’s sexual misconduct.

The 75th annual Golden Globes will take place on Jan. 7, with host Seth Meyers.
