Social news site Reddit has just given one of its users the best birthday gift he could ever ask for: his family.
Wednesday afternoon, 23-year-old redditor -steezy_wunda_bred- asked the Reddit community to help find his biological parents. He posted an old photo of them, their names, and some basic background information. Within three hours, his parents were located thanks to redditor Sylabelle.
“Syllabelle is an angel and googled her way into finding my birth parents. I’m (tentatively) in contact with my biological sister and mother,” wrote -steezy_wunda_bred- in the thread posted in r/Denver. “Everyone please give Syllabelle a serious round of applause for the best Xmas and Birthday present anyone could ever give a stranger.”
Sylabelle linked to an adoption agency website where his mothers information was listed. He emailed her and received the following response:
“I never, ever in a million years thought you would find me,” wrote his mother. “I am so overwhelmed with emotion that I have to close this brief note but wanted you to know I am here and have received your email and hope you are well.”
Later Wednesday night, Sylabelle found information on -steezy_wunda_bred-’s sister and accidentally linked to topless photos of the 20-year-old girl.
“My girlfriend was wondering what that was about…she clicked worksafe mode off when I looked away and STRONGLY recommended I not look,” wrote -steezy_wunda_bred-. “I took that advice.”
These sorts of heartwarming stories are nothing new on Reddit. About four months ago redditor inmynothing was able to track down his mother’s record of death, thanks to some clever sleuthing by the r/AskReddit community.
With every heart-warming story on Reddit, there’s cause for some skepticism. Rest assured, though: If there’s a glitch in the narrative, redditors will be the first ones to find it.
In the meantime, it looks like -steezy_wunda_bred- won’t be spending the holidays or his birthday on Tuesday alone.
“I’m on the verge of tears” he wrote. “I don’t know what to do.”
