In an act of selflessness, high school seniors at Profile Junior-Senior High School in Bethlehem, N.H., canceled their senior trip to donate the savings to their principal diagnosed with cancer. The students gave nearly $8,000 to school principal Courtney Vashaw, who is battling a rare soft-tissue cancer called synovial sarcoma.
But now, a teacher in Seattle has setup a Crowdrise fund to help finance the seniors’ trip along with donating any money raised over the $8,000 to Vashaw for medical expenses.
Alex LaCasse, the teacher behind the Crowdrise, writes on the page:
Today’s youth often get a bad reputation–their “greed” and “selfishness” propagated over and over. Yet, these are the type of students I am use [sic] to interacting with. This generation is open-minded, selfless, compassionate, and willing to do anything for anyone. Their principal, too, deserves credit for fostering and supporting these young minds. These seniors deserve a class trip.
Within a couple of hours of the funding being started, donations have started to pour in. Some are as little as $10, with one gracious soul putting down $1,000 and commenting, “teachers heal.”
“She’s just very caring, very selfless, and we wanted to be selfless too,” Class Treasurer Ian Baker told WMUR.
