Transgender actor will join cast of ‘Modern Family’

Modern Family just became a little more modern. 

On Wednesday the episode “A Stereotypical Day” will feature transgender actor, Jackson Millarker. The 8-year-old is television’s first openly transgender child actor.

According to Variety, Millarker will play Tom, a transgender character who is invited over to Lily’s (Aubrey Anderson-Emmons) house for a play-date.

Although we have seen other transgender actors on television before like Laverne Cox, Jen Richards, and Jazz Jennings, this is the first time we see a child given the opportunity.

Here is to another win for diversity.
