The Anonymous-affiliated journalist Barrett Brown has been in prison for over a year awaiting trial on three indictments with a total of 17 charges, including conspiracy, threatening a law enforcement officer, and obstruction.

The case against him was built around his sharing of a link to a LulzSec-hacked database belonging to the security firm Stratfor.

Denied bail as a flight risk, Brown faces up to a 100 years in jail. He was also going through withdrawal from heroin during and after his arrest.

If all that is not enough, today Brown’s mother, Karen Lancaster McCutchin, is being sentenced today after having pled guilty in May to obstructing the execution of a search warrant issued against her son.

She apparently hid two laptops belonging to her son in a kitchen cabinet to try to keep FBI agents from seizing them.

As per her plea agreement, McCutchin faces a year in prison, a fine of up to $100,000, restitution and forfeiture of property, and probation of up to a year.
