Uber CEO says there’s a ‘high cost to a bad reputation’ in response to London banning

He also said 'change comes from self-reflection.'

New Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi told his staff the company must “act with integrity” in response to London’s Uber ban announcement on Friday.

The Transport of London announced Friday that Uber doesn’t follow the city’s regulations and will be barred from operating in the city by the end of September.

Bloomberg business reporter Eric Newcomer released a screenshot of Khosrowshahi’s staff-wide email in which he responded to the news and said he was “hugely disappointed” in the decision. But he also heaped some of the blame on Uber.

Although Khosrowshahi denied the claims made by the Transport of London, he also said the company must work on improving its trust and reputation in cities around the world.

“While the impulse may be to say that this is unfair, one of the lessons I’ve learned over time is that change comes from self-reflection,” he wrote. “So it’s worth examining how we got here. The truth is that there is a high cost to a bad reputation.”

Khosrowshahi also said the company plans to appeal the Transport of London’s decision.
