North Korea state media warned on Thursday of a “super-mighty preemptive strike” that would reduce South Korea and the United States to “ashes.”
The official newspaper for North Korea’s Worker’s Party wrote, “In the case of our super-mighty preemptive strike being launched, it will completely and immediately wipe out not only U.S imperialists’ invasion forces in South Korea and its surrounding areas but the U.S mainland and reduce them to ashes.”
The threat came after U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said the United States continues to look at ways to pressure North Korea over its nuclear program. Tillerson told reporters this week that the U.S was “reviewing all the status of North Korea, both in terms of state sponsorship of terrorism as well as other ways in which we can bring pressure on the regime in Pyongyang.”
The 15-member United Nations security council condemned North Korea on Thursday for its latest missile test on Sunday that failed and demanded Pyongyang to stop the nuclear tests.
U.S House of Representatives Speaker Paul Ryan said military action must remain an option for the U.S during a visit to London. “Allowing this dictator to have that kind of power is not something that civilized nations can allow to happen,” Ryan said.
Hwang Kyoahn, South Korea’s acting president, called for military and security ministries to remain vigilant in a meeting Thursday with top officials.
