Jesse Sorensen, a former professional wrestler whose career was almost cut short due to a severe in-ring injury, received an apology and refund after an Uber driver recently refused to give the Florida resident and his service dog a ride home from the airport.
The Uber driver had his driving privileges revoked on Wednesday and the ride-hailing giant issued Sorensen a full refund.
Sorensen, who wrestled for TNA and briefly in the WWE’s NXT division, tweeted that he explained to his Uber Driver that his dog was a trained service and support animal. The driver still refused service, put Sorensen’s bags on the street, and drove away.
The Palm Beach Post reported that Sorensen’s tweet included a screenshot of his Uber app and identified the driver as “Isack.” The driver had a rating of 4.77 out of 5 stars with over 2,700 trips under his belt. The tweets have since been deleted, but CBS 12 originally covered Sorensen’s tweetstorm late Monday.
According to NBC 10, Uber’s pet policy permits service animals at all times and drivers are only allowed to ask two questions, “Is the animal required because of a disability?” and “What work or task has the animal been trained to perform?” It’s unknown whether the driver asked these questions.
Sorensen’s career has stalled since an almost fatal neck injury occurred in 2012 during his stint with TNA Impact wrestling. Sorensen suffered a C-1 vertebrae fracture and spinal cord edema.
Sorensen has since returned to the ring, making brief appearances in NXT, though he wasn’t under contract with the organization.
