Boing Boing’s Xeni Jardin discusses the cost of cancer

Xeni Storify
The Boing Boing blogger hosted an open conversation about the personal and financial costs of cancer on Twitter.

At the Daily Dot, we’re big fans of Storify. It’s both a tool we use to tell stories and a community of other storytellers. When the Web reacts to a big news event, we’ll use Storify to bring you the best recaps and explainers.

Last December, after live-tweeting her first mammogram, Boing Boing Editor Xeni Jardin announced she’d been diagnosed with breast cancer. Ever since, Jardin has been blogging and tweeting about both her own cancer battle and the battles of others.

In Jardin’s first-ever Storify, she recaps a “Twitter conversation” between her and her followers where they shared stories (some of them pretty horrific) about the financial burden caused by cancer, the inadequacies of the current U.S. health-care system, and what might be done about it.

Xeni Jardin updates her struggle with breast cancer: "Herb seems the least worrisome"
BoingBoing Coeditor Xeni Jardin never bothered with marijuana until last December. That’s when her first-ever mammogram resulted in a breast-cancer diagnosis. She’s been live-tweeting her experiences since then. She even changed her Twitter account bio to specify: “Breast cancer isn't something I have, but something my body is currently doing.”
