Tom Waits joins cast of Hulu vigilante drama ‘Citizen’

Tom Waits is set to bless Hulu with his presence. 

The musician and actor has been cast in the pilot for new original series Citizen as Cesar, a priest who runs a guerrilla humanitarian operation out of his church. The drama, helmed by Me and Earl and the Dying Girl director Alfonso Gomez-Rejon, is described as a “hero origin story” set in Los Angeles that “blends elements of magical realism and gritty vigilantism.” The Revenant’s Forrest Goodluck is also set to star. 

Though largely known for his music, Waits is no stranger to the screen. He’s appeared in Mystery Men, Coffee and Cigarettes, Short Cuts, and Dracula, among other films. He was also on The Simpsons. 

The pilot’s air date has not yet been announced.
