Did the Evil Queen remix Snow White’s love into the DJ booth?
Here at the Daily Dot, we swap GIF images with each other every morning. Now we’re looping you in. In the Morning GIF, we feature a popular—or just plain cool—GIF we found on Reddit, Canvas, or elsewhere on the Internet.
Happy Friday morning! To celebrate the weekend’s imminence, we’ve brought in a special celebrity DJ who’s been a big hit with the kids since 1937, guaranteeing you a dubstep-free good time. Presenting: DJ Charming.
The original GIF is simply a looped moment from Walt Disney’s first full-length film, the classic animated Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. This film, each cel painted by hand by teams of artists, caused the motion-picture industry as well as the public to re-examine what a “movie” could be. In the course of doing so, it also made a reported four times as much as any other film released that year. It also took an honorary Oscar, accompanied by seven miniature Oscars, presented to Disney by Shirley Temple.
Studied without context, this first GIF of the set could be taken for pornographic. This would no doubt displease the notoriously prudish Disney and his art director, the genius Albert Hurter, but we have dirty minds sometimes and it’s Friday, and so we’re going with it.
The blogger at the INeverWantToGrowUp Tumblr has edited Our Heroine out. (Shades of the Evil Queen!) In her place, the GIF adds some decks, transforming Prince Charming into DJ Charming. The remix has been remixed, reblogged, liked, and spun 29,570 notes worth on Tumblr. We’re not sure where he stands on Skrillex vs. Deadmau5 , but we just know his music is loud enough to wake the dead.
