When you’re waiting at the airport for your plane to leave, you only see a tiny fraction of the planes that take off. At many airports, including Boston Logan International Airport, small propeller planes and large jets share the same runways. A new time-lapse video shows the variety of planes waiting to escape the nation’s 19th busiest airport, as ranked by the FAA.
In the much-loved, one-minute video, compressed down from 40 minutes of raw footage, videographer Chris Eagle showcases Logan’s “rush hour.” The video shows planes backed-up tail-to-tail waiting to head on to their worldly destinations. It’s set to calming, ambient music, a stark contrast from the chaotic experience that is air travel.
Since the video was uploaded last week, it’s racked up 3,600 views and numerous eager comments complimenting Eagle’s skills. He asked commenters to identify the airlines and aircraft types in the videos and one viewer did that.
The video was recorded from Bayswater, a street across the water that overlooks Logan, according to Eagle. The spot is also a popular place for “spotters” (airplane fans) to take pictures.
This isn’t the first video Eagle has recorded. He shot another time lapse video of Logan in April that racked up nearly one million views, and he records many take-offs and landings on his YouTube channel.
