I think we all know Twilight is responsible for this.

Anyone who’s anyone knows that vampires are so totally 2009, but apparently 45-year-old Sandra Gonzalez didn’t get the memo. The California massage therapist was recently arrested for illegally providing “vampire facelifts” at a local beauty salon, after one of her clients reportedly died during the procedure.

Police say that Gonzalez gave 36-year-old Hamilet Suarez the cosmetic injections earlier this week at Areli’s Barbershop and Beauty Salon in Long Beach, California. After Suarez went into cardiac arrest and died, the police arrested Gonzalez, who does not have a cosmetic surgery license but was officially licensed as a massage therapist just two weeks ago. Police later discovered that Gonzalez had rented out a room in the salon to provide the injections, as well as butt and lip augmentations.

For those of you who don’t keep up with the latest wacky cosmetic surgery trends (or religiously follow the antics of Kim Kardashian, who was filmed undergoing the procedure for a recent episode of Kim and Kourtney Take Miami), a “vampire facelift” is a cosmetic surgery treatment where a physician injects the patient’s face with growth factors from his or her own blood. This is intended to “rejuvenate” the patient’s skin “to cause increased collagen and new blood flow,” according to the official Vampire Facelift website.

Here’s a video demonstration, if you’re interested. Enjoy those cherry-filled chocolates this Valentine’s Day!
